Google Streetview is about to launch soon in Brazil. It promises to be a very handy tool real-estate wise.

Apparently Google is exploring the possibility of slipping ads into Street View; interesting times ahead.

Vinlanda in the news

February 6th, 2010 - no responses

The Moradas da Ilha (2 units left) and Le Jardin (sold out) projects already had an extensive press coverage in December.  Last week Diario Catarinense devoted an article on Vinlanda and it’s upcoming Maresias project in Cacupe.

Brasil Economico reported yesterday on the Brazilian employment; unemployment was already on a record low of 7,5% end 2009.  Minister of Labour and Employment Carlos Lupi revealed that January 2010 will feature a record growth (last record dates of January 2007 with 140.000 new jobs created).   The final figures will be revealed next week; unemployment might drop below 7%; compared with the United States and Europe all featuring double-digit unemployment figures.

Brazilian Minister of Economy Guide Mantega foresees a job creation of 1,6 million jobs, close to the double of jobs created in 2009.

The Brazilian air company GOL announced a growth of 31,2% growth in passengers compared to last year, 8,5% more than in December.  The company transported 3 million passengers, compared to 2.030.000 passengers in January 2009.  The company had an occupancy rate of 79,4% in January.
Quite in contrast to the figures in Europe; Brussels Airport for example lost 8,4% of passengers in 2009 (lower nominal number of passengers than the annus horribilis of 2010).   In the whole of Europe 20 million was the total loss of passengers in 2009 compared to 2008.

Exemplary to underline the sheer growth and rise of Brazil: the geography of Twitter users.

Brazil ranks second, after the United states and is ramping up its position.   In July 2009, Brazil had 7,87% of the Twitter users and the United States 62,14%.  Today Brazil has 8,79% nd the United States 8,79%.

Epoca featured an anticle article on the phenomenonBrazil has today more than 68 million Internet users, a number which grows fast.  And the above Twitter stats show just how savvy and young they are.

The Brazilian history… good starters are this and this book.  On the latter one: if Brazil is thriving today, this is mainly thanks to Lula reaping the fruits of Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s work as Brazil’s Finance Minister in the early 90s and then as president from 1995 to 2002.

Interesting is the below video on the expansion on Brazil’s territory from 1700 to today.  Two main points of interest:

1811:
Expansion of Brazil to the South.  Until then Porto Alegre and Florianopolis were “Spanish territory”
1821:
Further expansion Southwards, all down to the Rio de la Plata.
1828:
Uruguay
1839:
Juliana Republic and Riograndense Republic
1862:
Riograndense Republic abolished

Since the bite into Bolivia (treaty of Petropolis) in 1903, the Brazilian territory hasn’t changed.
Despite the many changes, Brazil hasn’t know any real wars worth the name, except for the “small troubles” down South in the early 19th century.
