Brazil wins 57 lions at Cannes Festival

June 27th, 2010 - no responses

In the worldcup, the developed world is toast. All 5 South American countries (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile) are moving into the eighth finales.
Paul Kedrosky puts together the below great chart, showing the win-split between emerging and developed markets.

More important than the worldcup: the developed world is also toast on the Cannes international advertising festival.
Brazilian advertising agencies won last week 57 lions and became the country winnining the most lions ever sincethe Cannes Lions festival started in 1993.

Moreover, it was the Brazilian agency AlmapBBDO from Marcello Serpa who was nominated advertising agency of the year at Cannes.

Due to the growth of its middle class, Brazil has the most active online participation in the world.   Twitter is simply booming in Brazil and South America these days(read this Techcrunch article of last week on South America n Twitter usage ).  Or look to these recent Comcast charts on Latin American Internet audience growth (soon to overtake Europe?).  There are now 42.9 million Facebook users in South America, not counting those in central America and the Caribbean, who would add in almost 15 million more.  And Brazil itself is after the United States, the second largest country on Twitter and wait what happens when Twitter gets launched in Portuguese soon

Quoting Comcast: “From Mexico to Chile, we expect Internet usage in the region to continue to grow for the foreseeable future, presenting local and global brands with the opportunity to reach and engage these active, online audiences. Stay tuned for more insights into Latin America throughout the coming months as comScore continues to provide insights into digital media consumption across the globe.”

Read these statistics of PC sales in Brazil: from January until March 2,9 million desktops and laptops were sold in Brazil, expectation is that by the end of 2010, 13,2 million desktops and laptops will have been sold (in 1 year).    And broadband Internet access in Brazil will triple by 2014.
